[y]our2040: Tomorrow Envisioned

[y]our2040 is a participatory futures initiative based in La Punt Chamues-ch, Switzerland.
Tomorrow Envisioned 2025 gathering showcased how place-based collaboration can drive change. It moved from envisioning to implementation, emphasizing that true transformation demands strategy, partnerships, and commitment to progress. Building on the outcomes from 2024, participants moved from storytelling to backcasting, strategic roadmapping, and solution prototyping.

Tomorrow Envisioned: Process
In 2025, the Gathering embodies the foresight-to-action methodology through imagining visions for the future and learning how to design for them. We used the backcasting method: beginning with a vision for the future and working backward in time – to today – to identify what steps are needed to create a pathway to that vision

My Role: Research and Writing

Research
Each card features a project, policy, or prototype that addresses today’s most complex challenges, from climate adaptation to economic resilience and social cohesion, sourced over 200 reports, articles and sources.

Organize
I organized the innovations using the STEEP framework (Social, Technological, Economic, Environmental, Political) and mapped them across three time horizons: Now, New, and Next.

Design
Each card includes a set of provocative questions to spark imagination and dialogue to inspire creative thinking, challenge assumptions, and open up new directions for local futures.

These cards could be used as foresight tools in visioning exercises, in group brainstorms, and as prompts for cross-pollinating ideas from one region to another.

Spending a week in the alpine village of La Punt Chamues-ch with [y]our2040 was a refreshing and grounding experience, not just for the mind, but for the way I think about futures work. I came away with a clearer sense that designing for the future isn’t just about big ideas - it’s about local context, relationships, and the small steps we can take today.
